Did you know we didn’t always celebrate New Year’s Day on January 1st?
New Year’s was observed on the spring equinox, autumn equinox, winter solstice, with the most popular dates on March 25 and December 25.
The Gregorian calendar fixed the errors in the Julian calendar by adding leap years and in 1582 the Roman Catholic Church officially adopted January 1st as the beginning of the new year.
But it wasn’t until 1918, 336 years later, when most of the world came onboard. However, there remain a few holdouts who celebrate on a different day.

There is one habit that can come to your rescue in times of trouble especially if you are a business owner: file every document with a chronological file name.
YYYY-MM-DD File name.pdf
If and when something goes sideways, months or years later, it is much easier to find and identify documents listed in chronological order.
It just takes a few minutes a day to archive files in this manner to save yourself hours of tedium sifting through thousands of correspondence in long forgotten emails.
My business philosophy is just assume that everything you do is going to be audited.

How do you really know that you’re talking to an authorized banking representative?
A close relative was recently scammed into disclosing personal information.
The impersonator, posing as a bank representative, was alerting her to potential fraudulent charges.
The scammer knew certain banking details, but not enough.
This is when suspicion raised a flag: the bank rep advised not to conduct any transactions for the next 24 hours for security purposes.
Upon calling the toll-free number, the fraud department confirmed they did not initiate contact. The reason for the 24-hour delay is so the fraudulent charges could not be reversed or stopped.
This is why two-factor authentication helps secure access to sensitive online sites.
The first layer is through an email address; the second is a verification PIN sent to a cell phone.
If in doubt, ask for the reference number, tell the agent you are going to hang up, and call the number on the back of your credit card.
WHY INVEST IN REAL ESTATE?
If the real estate you own increases in value over time, you can sell it for a solid profit. Remember, though: Appreciation isn’t guaranteed. You’ll need to invest in the right property to see those big returns.
